(ContentDesk) November 29, 2005 -- Ah, the holidays! The traditional time for turkeys in the oven, pies on sideboard, cranberry sauce on the table and crab cakes at the door.???Crab cakes at the door?Well, if John Brooks has his way, all those Norman Rockwell-esque holiday dinner scenes may look just a bit different from now on.???Brooks and his Crabcake Factory USA are seeking to add a heaping helping of lump crab cakes to holiday dinner tables coast to coast with the help of FedEx and the restaurants website, www.crabcakefactoryusa.com. At the latest count, he says, the site was getting just over 500 hits per day, and now that the holiday season is upon us, Brooks expects that number to increase steadily.A steady increase might be a nice change of pace for Brooks, who has seen both his restaurant and his online sales grow at a near-meteoric pace over the past few years. After all, his is a business that went from buying one, single pound of crabmeat (to make a whopping four crab cakes as a lunch special) to one that now purchases and sells upwards of 3,600 pounds of the flaky, tasty all-lump and backfin meat a year. Or, as Brooks likes to say, just a biscuit under two tons. One name change and a whole lot of crab cakes later, Brooks practically beams when he points out that after eight years, his online special for six crab cakes is still priced at the same $49.99 as it was when he started his cyber-shopping venture. As the demand for his lump and backfin cakes grows, Brooks is even now looking into warehouse facilities to keep a steady supply of crabmeat on hand for both the restaurant and his online sales.Another of the nationwide shopping networks sells a product it calls Maryland-style crab cakes, but Brooks says flatly that they arent even in the same league as his. In fact, he went so far as to purchase an order that, he says, he still keeps in the restaurant freezer with a big note saying, DO NOT SERVE. There may be pieces of lump crab on the outside of those cakes, Brooks explains, but on the inside its a whole other story. With his degree in marketing and a loyal, local clientele to back him up, Brooks flatly states he wont be changing his product to pinch out a few more pennies in profit, regardless of what the competition online or on the sandbar may do.One thing Brooks is constantly changing, however, is the interior of the Crabcake Factory USA.
In this totally smoke-free restaurant and bar, Brooks has added dozens of LCD and plasma TVs and packed the place with Maryland Terrapin and Baltimore Ravens memorabilia, leaving no question as to where his (sports) allegiances are.Brooks comes by his passion for the Terrapins honestly enough. His dad, Ron Brooks, was the starting guard opposite five-time NBA All-Star Gene Shue while the two were at the University of Maryland, College Park from 1950 to 1954.The Ravens connection is a good deal more recent for this Washington, D.C., native who grew up in the city of Rockville in Montgomery County. Still, from the framed Ray Lewis University of Miami jersey to the Super Bowl XXXV headlines, even the most die-hard Baltimore fan would feel perfectly at home in Brooks bar.Business, according to Brooks, has gone so well that the restaurant no longer closes for the winter months.???Instead, its loyal local following is treated to a host of off-season specials including half-price crab cake platters on Sundays; an all-day Mexican Monday with $5 buckets of Coronitas and five tacos for $5; half-price cheesesteaks on Tuesdays; pizza and beer specials on Wednesdays; barbecue specials on Thursdays and, true to his Terrapin roots, a host of gameday deals to enjoy while watching Maryland (and Baltimore Ravens) games at the bar. For his online customers, Brooks still offers those same six restaurant-style crab cakes for the same $49.99 he started with eight years ago, but has added 57 other items, as well.Orders for delivery as Christmas gifts, Brooks cautions, must be placed by or before Dec. 19 in order to ensure delivery.
Orders can be placed from the website at www.crabcakefactoryusa.com or by calling the toll-free number shown on the website. So, watch out, Norman Rockwell. If young John Brooks has his way, all those traditional holiday meals across the country may just have a new look from now on with his lump crab cakes stealing the show from that big bird in the oven.Crabcake Factory will open up 2006 with plans to franchise nationally. How Much Water Should You Drink Per Day?
I'm always amazed at how many people seem to know the answer tothis question yet in practice they fail. Everybody I've talked toseems to know that 8-12 glasses of water a day is the recommended standard. But if I ask them how many glasses of water have you consumed today? The answer is usually none. Or the other standard answer at a corporate environment "does coffee count?"While 8-12 glasses of water is great for the average sedentary person, many of us are fitness conscious or on the pursuit of some type of bodybuilding physique. With that in mind, I think the new standard for us should be 1-2 gallons of water a day.As a bodybuilder, you are putting much more nutrients, food, supplements, and other stuff into your body.
What your body does not use, it must rid itself of by any means necessary. Usually it does this via water. So drinking plenty of water becomes a necessity. Increasing protein puts a strain on your body and drinking lots of water can keep things "moving." Creatine...

The Best Plasma TVs
Plasma TVs are the hottest thing in home entertainment, offering a crystal clear image with high quality resolution. The monitor is often less than a few inches thick, so it doesn't need as much space as its traditional counterparts. It uses less electricity than a regular television and, unlike the old CRT TVs, there is no image disturbance if the monitor is placed near large speakers. But with so many plasma TVs on the market, how do you know which is the best one to buy? Firstly, you should decide on your budget. Knowing how much you have to spend will definitely be a good place to start. Plasma TVs generally start at around $700.00 and can go as high as $4,000.00, so it's important to know what you can afford before you start shopping.
Once you've worked out how much you want to spend, you need to decide whether you want your new plasma television to consist of more than just a plasma display or if you want it to have a TV tuner, as well. The pricier plasma TVs will have a...

Off the Wall and On Target: This Advertising Genius Scores
(ContentDesk) January 1, 2006 -- Actually, Devi DeLavie is not a new kid in any sense of the word. Hes been into media, performing and visual arts for more than four decades.
And hes hardly on the same block as Madison Avenue. Hes nestled quietly away in the cool pines of Northern Arizona.
His growing display of wmv files of TV spots includes chickens doing a Hyundai ad, and a visually rustic ad for DCI (a Pharmaceutical Company) that was specifically targeted toward the college crowd of NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona, trying to convince them to sell their plasma. The DCI spot, explains Mr.
Delavie Caused quite a commotion.
Parents were noticing that their teens had memorized the words and were singing this spot throughout the day.
I later learned that the Communications Department at NAU was using it as a demonstration of target marketing.
I couldnt keep from asking about what appears to be really poor video quality in spots.
